Rosie's Place: Serve the Evening Meal!

Rosie's Place (map)

Selected By: Rick

From the Rosie's Place website - http://www.rosiesplac... :

Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women, offers emergency and long-term assistance to women who have nowhere else to turn. Founded in 1974, Rosie’s Place welcomes each guest with respect and unconditional love. Rosie’s Place accepts no government funds, and relies instead on committed volunteers and private supporters to accomplish its effective and innovative work.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Upon arriving at Rosie's Place, head straight into the dining room -- the women at the front desk can give you direction. A staff member or experienced volunteer will give you an overview and answer any questions. While here, volunteers may assist with the preparation of the meal, serving soup or working the counter where the women will ask for various items like soap and shampoo. Volunteers serve the meals and, provided that there is food left over, volunteers are invited to sit and have a meal with the women. After the meal, volunteers collect the dishes for the dishwasher, clean the tables, drain the coffee maker, etc.

This project will run from 5:00pm - 7:30pm...Rick

Outstanding! The enormity of food that's needed to feed so many was staggering. I think we all did a great job just helping where we could. Being approached by residents who just wanted to talk was awakening. Seeing them smile = priceless.
